Gangeshwar Mahadev Temple in Diu attracts pilgrims during Sawan 2026
The Gangeshwar Mahadev Temple, a cave shrine on the coast of Diu in the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, houses five Shivlingas that are washed by the Arabian Sea tides each day. According to local belief, the Pandavas installed the lingas during their exile, and the temple becomes a focal point for devotees during the holy month of Sawan (Shravan) in 2026. Pilgrims visit to witness the daily submergence and emergence of the lingas, perform rituals, and observe the traditional Somvar Vrat and Kanwar Yatra, carrying holy water from the Ganga to Shiva shrines across India.
The temple’s unique natural‑religious phenomenon draws both pilgrims and tourists, especially in the first Monday of Sawan, when special prayers for health, marital harmony and spiritual strength are offered to Lord Shiva.
