Gangnam-gu announces major organizational restructuring

Gangnam-gu Mayor Kim Hyun-ki has announced a major organizational restructuring plan for the ninth popularly elected administration, aimed at implementing the ‘Gangnam Grand Transformation’ vision. The plan focuses on five core areas: reconstruction, culture and tourism, transportation, AI and robotics, and public facilities.

Key changes include the expansion of the administrative structure by one bureau, one division, and five teams. To prioritize housing stability and supply, the Housing and Urban Bureau and the Reconstruction Division will be positioned as the highest-ranking departments. A new Future Economy Bureau will be established to integrate AI, robotics, regional economy, and job creation, aiming to turn these technologies into regional growth engines.

Additionally, the district will consolidate culture, arts, and Hallyu tourism under a reorganized Culture and Education Bureau. Transportation functions will be reorganized to support major railway projects and parking expansion. To improve public architecture, a dedicated Public Facilities Division will be created, separating construction management from facility operations. The restructuring is expected to take effect in January 2027 following approval by the Gangnam-gu Council.
