Gangnam-gu clarifies handling of 178 dental clinic complaints

Gangnam-gu authorities have issued a clarification regarding the handling of 178 complaints filed against a local dental clinic. Responding to reports suggesting negligence, the district stated that complaints were processed based on their specific nature and legal implications.

Approximately 57.9% of the complaints involved issues such as medical fee refunds, waiting times, or staff conduct, which do not constitute violations of the Medical Service Act. For these cases, the district provided guidance on mediation procedures or referred individuals to the Korea Consumer Agency.

The remaining 42.1% of complaints involved potential legal violations, including the falsification of medical records, refusal of treatment, or unlicensed medical practices. In response, the district conducted 14 on-site investigations and referred one confirmed violation to investigative authorities.

Moving forward, Gangnam-gu plans to review the limitations of current healthcare management systems. The district intends to consult with experts and the Seoul Metropolitan Government to propose systemic improvements to the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Additionally, the district will increase inspections of clinics with high complaint volumes to prevent false or exaggerated medical advertising.
