Gangnam-gu receives dual Seoul Metropolitan Government awards for mental health services
Gangnam-gu has received dual honors from the Seoul Metropolitan Government for its contributions to mental health and suicide prevention. The district's directly operated Gangnam-gu Youth Psychological Support Center Sai-Shim was recognized in the institutional category, while a staff member from the Gangnam-gu Public Health Center received an award in the individual category.
The awards were presented during a ceremony held on October 1 in Seoul to commemorate Mental Health Day on October 10. The Sai-Shim center, located in the Daechi-dong academy district, has been recognized for providing specialized psychological services since its opening in April 2021, including individual counseling, play therapy, and case management for youth in crisis. The center was specifically lauded for establishing cooperation systems with local schools and related agencies to provide preemptive support.
Gangnam-gu Mayor Kim Hyun-ki stated that the achievement is a result of the dedication of staff working on the front lines to protect the mental well-being of residents and youth. He emphasized the district's commitment to building a robust psychological safety net for those in need.
