Gangnam-gu smart shared parking usage rises 36.6% after 24-hour expansion
Gangnam-gu has reported a 36.6% increase in the use of its ‘Smart Shared Parking’ service following the expansion of its operating hours to 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The service allows residents with priority parking spaces to share their spots with other drivers via mobile applications such as ‘Parking Friends’ and ‘Parking With’ during times when the spaces are not in use.
Previously, the service was limited to weekdays from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Since expanding the service to include nights, weekends, and public holidays on July 1, total usage in July reached 21,342 cases, up from 15,619 in June. Usage during the newly added time slots—weekday nights and weekends/holidays—accounted for 24.7% of the total monthly volume.
The district aims to increase the efficiency of existing parking infrastructure without the need to construct new facilities, thereby alleviating urban parking shortages. Gangnam-gu plans to continue promoting the service through various digital and offline channels and will conduct surveys among parking space holders to encourage further participation.
