Gangneung hosts 2026 ITS World Congress featuring autonomous driving and AI

The 2026 ITS World Congress is being held at Gangneung Olympic Park from October 19 to 23. This event, which marks the first time the congress has been hosted in South Korea in 16 years, focuses on the theme ‘A World United Beyond Mobility.’ The congress features 193 academic sessions and 428 exhibition booths, aiming to host 60,000 participants from 90 countries.

Key technologies on display include autonomous driving, parking robots, AI-based traffic management, and drone delivery services. High-level officials from nine countries, including Germany, the United States, and Singapore, are participating alongside representatives from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the International Road Federation (IRF).

LG Electronics is participating by showcasing an integrated traffic safety solution that combines Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) and Vehicle-to-Network (V2N) technologies. The company is conducting a 2.6km driving demonstration to show how vehicles can detect and warn drivers about hazards such as broken-down vehicles, road construction, bad weather, and pedestrian collision risks. This solution is designed to meet Euro NCAP safety standards and support the transition to software-defined vehicles.
