Gangneung Police investigate woman for spreading false firework injury claims

The Gangneung Police Station is investigating a woman in her 20s for allegedly spreading false information regarding a firework accident at Gangmun Beach. The individual had claimed on social media that her father suffered second-degree burns after men fired fireworks at a low trajectory during a walk.

The post also accused the police of failing to identify or apprehend the perpetrators despite a report being filed. However, police investigations revealed that no such report was ever made to the authorities or the Gangneung city government. Furthermore, digital forensics and location tracking confirmed that the woman was in Incheon, not Gangneung, at the time the incident was alleged to have occurred.

Police also determined that the video and photos of the burns provided in the posts were not captured by the woman herself. Authorities are currently reviewing charges of defamation and obstruction of business, stating they will respond strictly to the spread of false information that undermines public trust in law enforcement.
