Gangni administrative services disrupted by UNO vacancy; Nikli begins dengue prevention

Administrative operations in Gangni, Meherpur, have been disrupted for approximately three weeks due to the absence of a permanent Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO). Following the transfer of Anwar Hossain on August 18, the position has remained vacant despite multiple attempts to appoint new officials, which were subsequently suspended. Currently, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Nabid Hossain is managing additional responsibilities, though reports indicate he may also be transferred soon. The vacancy is causing significant delays and difficulties for the 450,000 residents of the nine unions and one municipality who rely on the office for essential services.

In Nikli, Kishoreganj, local authorities have launched a dengue prevention and cleanliness campaign. Organized by the Nikli Upazila administration and presided over by UNO Shamim Ara, the initiative aims to combat the rising prevalence of dengue by eliminating mosquito breeding sites. Officials are urging residents to clear stagnant water from containers, plastic waste, and coconut husks, while emphasizing the importance of community awareness and environmental hygiene to keep the area dengue-free.
