Gangseo-gu pushes for rapid Gangbuk Crossing Line development
Gangseo-gu Mayor Jin Kyo-hun has announced a concentrated effort to expedite the construction of the Gangbuk Crossing Line and ensure the inclusion of three planned stations within the district.
During a meeting of the Gangbuk Crossing Line Urban Railway Construction Project Promotion Committee, Mayor Jin emphasized that the proposed stations near Deungchon Station, the Deungchon 2-dong Community Center, and the Mokdong Intersection area are essential. He noted that these locations currently face high subway demand and expect further increases due to upcoming urban redevelopment projects, such as Moa Town and urban public housing complex projects.
The Gangbuk Crossing Line is a 25.79km light rail project connecting Cheongnyangni Station in Dongdaemun-gu to Mokdong Station in Yangcheon-gu. While the project was previously delayed after failing a preliminary feasibility study by the Ministry of Economy and Finance in 2024, it has been reintegrated into Seoul's 3rd Urban Railway Network Construction Plan. However, the total number of stations was reduced from 19 to 17 due to profitability concerns. Gangseo-gu plans to continue negotiations with the Seoul Metropolitan Government to restore the original station count and will issue a formal statement urging rapid progress.
