Ganjam man arrested for fatal stabbing of wife in Nahada village

A man has been arrested in Nahada village, Ganjam district, for the fatal stabbing of his wife, Minati Pradhan. The suspect, identified as Sujit Biswal, allegedly attacked the victim in her home on Sunday.

Reports indicate the couple had a long-standing and complex relationship spanning over a decade. While one account suggests the victim rejected a marriage proposal due to the suspect's criminal history, another indicates the pair had previously married in court but lived apart due to family disapproval. The suspect had reportedly been making threats against the victim's family members in recent months.

During the attack, the suspect allegedly slit the victim's throat and stabbed her multiple times. Following the incident, the suspect reportedly attempted to make the death appear accidental by opening a cooking gas cylinder valve to start a fire. He was subsequently detained by the Gangpur police after surrendering or being intercepted at the scene. A scientific team has examined the crime scene, and an autopsy has been ordered.
