Ganzhou promotes Red Tourism ahead of Long March 90th anniversary

Ganzhou, Jiangxi, is experiencing a surge in “Red Tourism” as the region prepares to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Long March victory. The area, often described as a “museum without walls,” utilizes its vast collection of revolutionary relics and historical sites to drive local economic development and cultural education.

In Yudu, the Yudu River serves as a central landmark where historical narratives are brought to life through immersive performances and modern infrastructure. Five bridges, named after key stages of the Long March—Assembly, Crossing the River, Marching, Gathering, and Victory—now span the river, symbolizing the transition from historical hardship to modern prosperity. Local residents and descendants of Red Army soldiers participate in volunteer programs, including historical reenactments and guided tours.

Other key locations such as Ruijin and Xingguo have integrated historical education with modern tourism. Activities include immersive theater, AR-enhanced historical tours, and educational study programs for students. This integration of “Red culture” with rural revitalization has boosted local industries, including agriculture and hospitality, turning historical sites into comprehensive destinations for cultural experience and ecological leisure.
