Gapyung hosts 20th Gyeonggi Provincial Para Sports Competition
The 20th Gyeonggi Provincial Para Sports Competition officially commenced on August 28 at Jaraseom in Gapyung. The two-day event brings together 4,276 participants, including 1,957 athletes and 2,319 officials and guardians, representing 31 cities and counties across Gyeonggi Province.
The competition features 19 different disciplines, including athletics, swimming, basketball, boccia, e-sports, and taekwondo. Athletes participating in the event represent various disabilities, such as visual, auditory, intellectual, and brain lesions.
During the opening ceremony, Gyeonggi Governor Chu Mi-ae emphasized the provincial government's commitment to lowering barriers to sports for people with disabilities. She stated that the province aims to expand disability-friendly sports facilities, such as Bandabi Sports Centers, and ensure that access to physical activity is not determined by an individual's location or type of disability.
