GarantiPRO study identifies prevention potential in 40% of vehicle breakdowns
A study conducted by GarantiPRO involving 5,000 analyzed breakdowns reveals that 41.8% of cases—totaling 2,090 incidents—show signs related to vehicle wear, maintenance, or usage. While the study does not conclude that all such incidents are avoidable, it highlights areas where early detection and regular maintenance could prevent issues or reduce repair costs.
Specifically, 15.3% of breakdowns (765 cases) are linked to wear and maintenance items such as batteries, clutches, brakes, timing belts, filters, spark plugs, tires, and suspension components. Another 23.2% (1,160 cases) are related to maintenance or usage involving components like turbochargers, particulate filters (FAP), EGR valves, AdBlue systems, injectors, catalytic converters, cooling systems, and water pumps. An additional 3.3% involve a combination of wear elements and other mechanical or electronic systems.
These categories represent 45% of the total recorded repair costs. José Luis Alonso, Director General of GarantiPRO, noted that these findings indicate where focus should be placed, suggesting that reviewing vehicle history and anticipating needs can mitigate risks.
