Garbage collector killed in Içara, Brazil after drunk driver crash

On the night of 2 February, Abdul Manaf Inusah, a 26‑year‑old Ghanaian garbage collector employed by Racli Serviços e Sustentabilidade, was fatally injured when a Nissan Frontier driven by a 46‑year‑old intoxicated driver struck the rear of his waste‑collection vehicle in the Raichaski neighbourhood of Içara, Santa Catarina. Inusah suffered a fractured leg, severe leg wound and hemorrhage and died while receiving treatment at Hospital São Donato.

Police reported visible signs of the driver’s intoxication and noted no evidence of braking or evasive action before the collision. The driver was arrested on a charge of involuntary homicide, later granted provisional release after posting a bail of R$ 16,200 and receiving a six‑month suspension of his driving licence. The victim had sent money to his wife, child and mother in Ghana just hours before the accident, and his family is seeking justice through the courts. The case remains under investigation.
