Garching officials demand consequences after controversial Sedra sermon

Local political factions in Garching, specifically the SPD and Green Party, are calling for changes to municipal rental policies following a controversial appearance by Australian preachers Martin and Millicent Sedra. The event, organized by the association ‘Reviving The World’, took place at the local community center.

During the livestreamed sermon, Millicent Sedra compared silence on abortion to remaining silent during the Holocaust. Martin Sedra stated, ‘I love Muslims, but I hate Islam,’ and criticized religions that he claimed ‘kill my brothers and sisters’ or ‘worship a pedophilic prophet.’

In response, the SPD and Green Party factions have written to Mayor Thomas Lemke, demanding that future rentals of the community center be subject to a criteria catalog. This catalog would ensure that venues are only rented to organizers who act in accordance with the Basic Law and respect human dignity. Additionally, the initiative ‘Fundi-Watch’ has reportedly filed a criminal complaint regarding the event, though Munich police have not yet confirmed receipt of the filing.
