Gardaí seek witness in death of Yves Sakila
An Garda Síochána has issued a fresh appeal for witnesses following the death of 35-year-old Yves Sakila. Mr. Sakila, a Congolese national who had lived in Ireland since his teens, died in May after being detained in connection with an alleged shoplifting incident on Henry Street in Dublin city centre.
During the incident, Mr. Sakila reportedly became unresponsive and was taken to the Mater Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An elderly man was also injured during the encounter. Investigators confirmed that a post-mortem report has been completed, though details are being withheld for operational reasons.
Police are specifically seeking to speak with a young woman who was knocked to the ground during the incident. She is described as a white female in her late teens to early twenties with dark hair, wearing a khaki-coloured waist-length coat, a black crop top, blue jeans with knee cut-outs, and black Adidas trainers. Witnesses noted she remained in the area for several minutes before walking toward O’Connell Street. Anyone with information is urged to contact Store Street Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line.
