Garda Sergeant Andrew O'Riordan Killed in Clare Road Collision

Sergeant Andrew O'Riordan, a 28‑year veteran of An Garda Síochána from Blarney, County Cork, served in the Limerick Division and was a father of five. He had been deployed to France for the 2024 Paris Olympics and was fluent in French.

On a Sunday afternoon he was a passenger in a car that struck a tree on the R466 near Broadford, County Clare. The crash proved fatal for O'Riordan, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a man in his 50s, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to University Hospital Limerick. Gardaí have sealed the area for technical examination and are appealing for witnesses and dash‑cam footage.

The Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors and colleagues at Mayorstone Garda Station issued tributes, highlighting his professionalism and sense of humour. An investigation into the circumstances of the collision is ongoing.
