Garden experts advise pruning and drought‑resistant plants for hot August

In August, Romanian gardening specialists recommend pruning three key plants—roses, cosmos (Cosmos bipinnatus) and dahlias—to lower disease risk and encourage further flowering. Expert Luke Newnes advises removing wilted blooms, watering deeply a few times per week rather than light daily sprinkling, and keeping the lawn slightly longer to retain green colour during the heat.

Across the region, British Garden Centres director Julian Palphramand highlights five drought‑tolerant species suitable for hot, dry conditions: African lily, scabious tail, ornamental sedum, and Mediterranean herbs such as lavender and rosemary. He notes that “any Mediterranean plant, from lavender to rock rose, copes very well with heat and drought.” These plants are promoted for gardens in Romania and Hungary to maintain colour and vitality despite prolonged dry spells.
