Gardening experts suggest cardboard for weed control as Zagreb manages invasive ragweed

By placing cardboard over problematic areas and covering it with mulch or compost, gardeners can block sunlight, preventing weed growth while the cardboard naturally decomposes and enriches the soil.

In Zagreb, concerns have been raised regarding the presence of ragweed (ambrosia) in the Siget neighborhood. Ragweed is a highly invasive plant and a potent allergen that causes sneezing and irritation. While the City of Zagreb is implementing the "Flower Meadows" project—which uses delayed mowing to preserve biodiversity and pollinators—officials stated they are monitoring plant life and controlling allergenic growth through scheduled mowing to prevent excessive blooming.
