Gardening guidance for frost protection and new frost-prediction tool

As frost temperatures approach in many regions, gardeners are advised to prioritize the protection of tender plants. Tropical species and houseplants that were kept outdoors during the summer, such as pelargoniums, coleus, begonias, and succulents, should be moved indoors to prevent damage from freezing temperatures.

To assist with seasonal planning, a new tool called Frostwise has been developed. This hyperlocal garden planner uses the TabPFN open-source tabular foundation model and historical climate data from the Open-Meteo archive to predict specific frost dates for various global locations. The tool generates customized planting calendars for common crops like tomatoes, peppers, and kale, helping gardeners determine optimal sowing windows based on predicted spring and autumn frost patterns.
