Plant Care: Tips for Orchids, Christmas Cacti, and Chilies
Various gardening guides offer advice on maintaining specific plants during seasonal transitions.
To save orchids with wilting leaves, it is recommended to inspect the roots, as overwatering often causes rot. Cinnamon can be used as a natural antifungal agent on trimmed roots.
For Christmas cacti, experts suggest stimulating blooms by providing at least six weeks of darkness, with the plant receiving 14 to 16 hours of darkness daily starting in October. Maintaining temperatures between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius and reducing watering can also encourage flowering.
Chili plants, which are perennial, can be overwintered indoors to extend their lifespan up to ten years. They should be moved inside when temperatures drop below 13 degrees Celsius and kept in bright locations above 15 degrees Celsius.
Chrysanthemums require specific care after the holiday season. Potted varieties should be moved to bright, cool locations between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius, while frost-resistant garden varieties can remain in the ground if protected by soil or evergreen branches.
