Garena launches Free Fire India following four-year ban

Garena has officially released Free Fire India, a localized standalone version of its popular battle royale game, on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The launch follows a ban imposed by the Indian government in February 2022 due to national security concerns.

To comply with local regulations and address privacy concerns, Garena is hosting all user data on servers located within India. The new version introduces several responsible gaming features, including mandatory parental consent via OTP verification for players under 18, playtime limits, regular break reminders, and daily spending caps for minors.

The game has been optimized for a wide range of hardware, from budget smartphones to high-end devices, to ensure broad accessibility. To celebrate the launch, Garena is running a Diwali-themed in-game campaign scheduled to run until November 15, 2026. Additionally, the company plans to support the Indian esports ecosystem through grassroots and collegiate tournaments.
