Gareth Bale chose Real Madrid over £120m Manchester United bid

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has provided new details regarding Gareth Bale’s 2013 transfer to Real Madrid. Speaking on ‘The Obi One Podcast’, Villas-Boas revealed that Manchester United made a last-minute attempt to secure the Welsh winger by offering approximately £120 million, which would have outbid Real Madrid.

Despite the significant financial offer from Manchester United, Villas-Boas noted that Bale was determined to join the Spanish club. The manager recalled that while the bid from United arrived late, Bale’s preference for Real Madrid was clear, as the player was focused on completing the move to Madrid following a standout season at Tottenham where he achieved multiple individual accolades.
