Gareth Edwards leaves Jurassic World Rebirth sequel over creative differences

Director Gareth Edwards, who helmed the 2025 blockbuster Jurassic World Rebirth, has exited the planned sequel, citing creative differences with Universal Pictures. The studio confirmed the departure and said it had “an incredible experience working with Gareth on Jurassic World Rebirth.”

Jurassic World Rebirth earned roughly $869‑$872 million worldwide, making it a major box‑office success despite mixed critical reception. Universal has already retained screenwriter David Koepp for the follow‑up and expects the lead cast—Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali and Jonathan Bailey—to reprise their roles, though scheduling remains under negotiation. Spielberg and producer Frank Marshall continue as executive producers, while the studio begins a search for a new director, with production tentatively slated for 2027.
