Gareth Southgate rules out return to Premier League management
Former England manager Gareth Southgate has stated that he does not foresee a return to Premier League club management. Speaking on ‘The Amol Rajan Connection’ podcast, the 56-year-old explained that his desire to be involved in football has changed since resigning following the Euro 2024 final.
Southgate noted that towards the end of his tenure with the England national team, he stopped finding enjoyment in victories. He mentioned that he has hardly watched football since his departure and has not visited a football stadium since attending the FA Cup final to watch his boyhood club, Crystal Palace, win their first trophy.
Since leaving his role as the Three Lions boss, Southgate has pursued diverse interests, including working in the media, fronting a BBC documentary regarding challenges facing young men, and serving as a visiting lecturer at Harvard Business School. He expressed satisfaction with the last 18 months of his life, noting the benefit of having a sense of self that is not tied to weekly match results.
