Gargano hosts social inclusion and environmental heritage events
The Gargano region in Italy is hosting a series of community and environmental events in early September 2026.
The “Una barca di desideri” initiative, organized by the Italian Naval League and the Sicura social cooperative, will depart from the Port of Rodi Garganico on September 6. The project uses the “Helena,” a sailing vessel confiscated from organized crime and repurposed for public interest, to promote social inclusion for individuals with psychosocial or psychiatric challenges. The vessel is dedicated to the memory of Stella Costa, a victim of mafia violence.
Simultaneously, the Gargano National Park is conducting the “Cammino delle Lagune” as part of the Gargano Vivo festival on September 5-6. This event focuses on the Lesina and Varano coastal lagoons through guided trekking, cycling, and traditional rowing lessons. The program includes discussions on regenerative tourism, Slow Food workshops, birdwatching, and local culinary demonstrations aimed at promoting sustainable and conscious environmental engagement.
