Garčin begins construction on affordable housing for young families

The municipality of Garčin has broken ground on a new residential building designed to support young families as part of a broader demographic policy. The project, valued at approximately 1.2 million euros, will provide six apartments with exceptionally low rental rates of 0.36 euros per square meter. For a 60-square-meter apartment, the monthly rent would be just over 21 euros.

Funding for the Garčin project is provided by the European Regional Development Fund, which covers 85 percent of the costs, with the remaining 15 percent coming from the state budget. A unique feature of the initiative, coordinated with the European Commission, is the option for tenants to purchase their apartments after ten years of residency.

This project is part of a larger regional effort in Brod-Posavina County, where the Ministry plans to construct 71 residential units with a total value of approximately 9.9 million euros. Local officials, including Minister Branko Bačić and County Prefect Danijel Marušić, noted that these steps are essential for housing young people and retaining necessary workforce in local municipalities.
