Garissa police arrest suspected M-Pesa fraudster

Police in Garissa have arrested Edwin Mugoi, a suspect accused of defrauding M-Pesa shop attendants in Garissa town and surrounding areas. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the arrest followed an incident in the Posta area of Bulla Hodhan.

Mugoi allegedly posed as a Safaricom agent to trick an attendant into believing his phone line required an upgrade. During the encounter, he reportedly swapped the attendant’s line to fraudulently transfer funds to another account.

Following the arrest, officers recovered several items used in the alleged crimes, including multiple SIM cards, four mobile phones, two SIM card registration gadgets, and four chargers. Mugoi is currently in custody awaiting court proceedings.
