Garlasco murder case: Andrea Sempio's father declares son innocent amid new probe

Giuseppe Sempio, father of Andrea Sempio, appeared on Rai's TG1 to insist that his 38‑year‑old son did not kill Chiara Poggi in Garlasco. He said, "Mio figlio è innocente, non ha ucciso Chiara Poggi" and added, "Il giorno dell’omicidio di Chiara Poggi il mio figlio era con me".

The claim comes as the Pavia prosecutor's office has opened a fresh investigation into the 2017 murder case. Andrea remains the only person currently under investigation, while the police are also probing allegations that Giuseppe Sempio bribed former Pavia deputy prosecutor Mario Venditti to obtain an archival order for his son.

Giuseppe Sempio himself faces a separate corruption inquiry by the Brescia prosecutor's office. The defense of Andrea is preparing forensic, anthropometric and blood‑stain pattern analyses to challenge the prosecution's evidence, including the disputed fingerprint found at the crime scene. The outcome of the new investigation will determine whether further judicial steps, such as an interrogation of Andrea, will be pursued.
