Garlasco murder case: Defense challenges DNA evidence
In the ongoing investigation into the 2007 murder of Chiara Poggi in Garlasco, defense consultant and geneticist Marina Baldi has submitted a report questioning the DNA evidence used against suspect Andrea Sempio.
Baldi argues that the presence of DNA on the victim's fingernails cannot be attributed solely to Sempio. She notes that the profiles are mixed, including a second unidentified profile labeled ‘Ignoto 2’ found on another finger. The defense contends that the possibility of contamination applies to more than just the unidentified profile.
This genetic report is one of five documents being filed with the Prosecutor's Office as part of the defense's response to the latest stage of the investigation. The defense also continues to contest other evidence, including the compatibility of the suspect's footwear with tracks found at the crime scene and the attribution of a palm print.
