Andrea Sempio facing trial for Chiara Poggi murder in Garlasco case

The Pavia Prosecutor's Office has requested that Andrea Sempio, 38, stand trial for the murder of Chiara Poggi, which occurred on August 13, 2007, in Garlasco. Prosecutors allege that Sempio killed Poggi following the rejection of a sexual advance, citing motives of hatred and cruelty. The prosecution claims Sempio struck the victim repeatedly with a blunt object and inflicted at least 12 blows to her head and face.

This development creates a significant legal conflict, as Alberto Stasi, the victim's former boyfriend, is currently serving a 16-year sentence for the same crime after a final conviction. Sempio's defense team has characterized the situation as a “legal monster,” arguing that the proceedings against him should be suspended until Stasi's legal position is resolved through a requested retrial.

Judge Luigi Riganti has been assigned to the preliminary hearing to decide whether to proceed to trial. The investigation against Sempio reportedly relies on 21 pieces of evidence, including DNA traces found under the victim's fingernails and a palm print identified as trace 33. Sempio maintains his innocence and is prepared to defend himself in court.
