Garlasco murder case: New evidence emerges in Chiara Poggi investigation
The Garlasco murder investigation, involving the 2007 killing of Chiara Poggi, has entered a new phase as the Pavia Prosecutor's Office investigates Andrea Sempio. Sempio, who is currently a suspect, has publicly stated that he believes the original conviction of Alberto Stasi for the crime was correct and has denied any involvement.
New forensic details have emerged from the Ris di Parma. Documents reveal that a 2007 handwritten note by Captain Alberto Marino indicated a negative OBTI test result—a specific test for human blood—on the pedals of Stasi's bicycle, despite a positive Combur screening test. This specific negative result was allegedly omitted from official reports at the time. Additionally, investigators are reviewing the handling of biological samples, which the Ris maintains were stored correctly in a freezer before being disposed of as special waste in September 2016 in compliance with DNA database regulations.
Other elements under scrutiny include a psychological evaluation of Alberto Stasi that was reportedly not authorized by the Vigevano Prosecutor's Office, and disputed forensic evidence such as 'imprint 33' and shoe size compatibility. The defense for Sempio argues that DNA found under the victim's fingernails is insufficient to prove an aggressive contact and could be the result of indirect contamination.
