Andrea Sempio investigation nears deadline in Garlasco murder case

The Pavia Prosecutor's Office is approaching a critical deadline of September 28 regarding the investigation into the 2007 murder of Chiara Poggi. Andrea Sempio is currently the sole suspect in this new phase of the inquiry, which explores the possibility that he killed Poggi following a rejection of his sexual advances.

As part of the final investigative steps, authorities recently interviewed Luciano Garofano, the former head of the Carabinieri's Scientific Investigation Department (RIS), along with other former RIS officers who worked on the original 2007 case. The discussions, held under strict confidentiality, likely focused on re-evaluating the scientific evidence and technical findings from the original crime scene.

Four key technical expert reports are central to the ongoing investigation: a re-examination of DNA found under the victim's fingernails to verify potential links to Sempio's paternal line, anthropometric measurements of Sempio, an analysis of a specific floor imprint, and a pending psychiatric evaluation by Roberto Catanesi to assess Sempio's mental state at the time of the crime.

Following the formal notification of the investigation's closure, the defense of Alberto Stasi—who was previously convicted of the murder—may seek a trial revision based on the new findings.
