Garlasco murder case: New DNA findings on Alberto Stasi’s shoes
New scientific analyses regarding the 2007 murder of Chiara Poggi in Garlasco have raised questions about the evidence used to convict Alberto Stasi. Forensic experts have identified a mixed DNA profile on the black Lacoste shoes Stasi provided to investigators, which contains markers that could potentially match Poggi’s genetic profile.
While geneticist Giorgio Portera has urged caution, noting that further statistical analysis is required to confirm if the biological material belongs to the victim, the finding may align with Stasi’s long-standing claim that he entered the house wearing those specific shoes. This contrasts with the original judicial reasoning, which held that Stasi must have worn different shoes to avoid leaving blood or DNA traces at the scene.
Separately, the Pavia Prosecutor’s Office has requested that Andrea Sempio stand trial for voluntary homicide, aggravated by cruelty. Sempio maintains his innocence. The investigation into Sempio involves allegations of a sexual motive, which his defense claims lacks evidence.
