Garlasco murder case remains unsolved as new investigations continue

Italian investigators have reopened the 2007 murder of Chiara Poggi in Garlasco, focusing on contested shoe‑print evidence. Criminologist Roberta Bruzzone said the lack of decisive proof means “the case will remain unsolved.” Defense lawyers argue the identified Fraunumero 42 shoe size does not match suspect Andrea Sempio’s foot, while experts debate the relevance of imprint width.

At the same time, the case is being examined in a live televised program hosted by journalist Massimo Giletti at Santa Severa Castle. The show brings together eight experts—including defense attorneys, a geneticist, a forensic pathologist and legal commentators—to review forensic findings such as DNA under the victim’s nails and the so‑called “imprint 33,” and to discuss possible motives and upcoming judicial actions.

Both developments highlight ongoing public and legal scrutiny of a case that has remained a focal point of Italian true‑crime discourse nearly two decades after the homicide.
