Garlasco murder case revives debate over suspect Alberto Stasi

After years of public scrutiny, the investigation into the 2007 disappearance and death of Chiara Poggi in Garlasco has been reopened. Police are re‑examining old evidence and new data, with particular focus on Andrea Sempio, who has re‑emerged as a primary suspect.

Former Supreme Court prosecutor Oscar Cedrangolo, speaking on the TV program Zona Bianca, reiterated his 2015 view that the legal basis for Alberto Stasi’s conviction was insufficient. He said, “Io non sono in grado di dire se Alberto Stasi sia colpevole o innocente, e nemmeno voi,” emphasizing that he cannot declare Stasi guilty or innocent. The case remains one of Italy’s most controversial judicial proceedings.
