Garlasco murder investigation identifies Andrea Sempio as perpetrator

New developments in the Garlasco murder investigation have emerged following the closure of an inquiry by the Pavia Prosecutor's Office. The investigation identifies Andrea Sempio as the perpetrator of the crime for which Alberto Stasi was definitively convicted.

A central point of contention involves DNA evidence found on bicycle pedals. While defense experts previously argued that negative counter-analyses from 2007 should have exonerated Stasi, records indicate that these results were known to the defense as early as September 24, 2007. This contradicts claims that such data was excluded from the original trial files.

Despite these findings, Milan's Prosecutor General, Francesca Nanni, has cautioned that the path toward a judicial review of Stasi's conviction remains “long and tortuous.” The Milan Prosecutor's Office is currently awaiting the new case files from Pavia. Legal experts suggest that a review will only proceed if the new evidence is deemed decisively transformative, and the formal request for revision must be initiated by the defense through the Brescia Court of Appeal.
