Garlasco murder: Psychiatrist seeks meeting with suspect Andrea Sempio

In the ongoing investigation into the 2007 murder of Chiara Poggi in Garlasco, Roberto Catanesi, a psychiatrist acting as a consultant for the Pavia Prosecutor's Office, has requested a personal meeting with Andrea Sempio. Sempio, a 38-year-old childhood friend of the victim's brother, is the sole suspect in this new phase of the inquiry.

Sempio had previously refused to undergo a direct psychiatric examination, which was ordered in May to assess his mental capacity and social dangerousness. Due to this refusal, the psychiatrist has had to rely on existing materials, such as Sempio's writings and recorded soliloquies. The defense is currently evaluating Catanesi's request for a face-to-face meeting.

Parallel to the psychiatric assessment, the defense is challenging evidence related to a footprint found at the crime scene, claiming it is incompatible with Sempio's shoe size. Investigators are also scrutinizing a parking receipt from Vigevano that Sempio kept for over a year following the murder, questioning why he preserved the document for so long before becoming a person of interest.
