Garmin expands ecosystem with new software and wearable devices

Garmin is expanding its ecosystem through new software updates and a diversifying product lineup. A recent software update introduces several features, including voice commands via ‘OK Garmin’ and ‘phone assistant’, which allow users to manage timers or activities hands-free. The update also includes a fall detection feature for specific models like the Garmin Venu 4, and the ‘Quick Workout’ function, which generates personalized running sessions based on user intensity and duration.

Beyond software, the company is moving toward a multi-device ecosystem. In addition to its high-end GPS watches like the Fenix series, Garmin is introducing screenless smart bracelets and is reportedly preparing a smart ring. This shift toward multiple wearable devices, combined with the introduction of the ‘Garmin Connect+’ premium subscription service, marks a change in the company’s strategy. While historically known for providing comprehensive functionality within a single high-end watch, the brand is now offering specialized hardware and tiered software access to track health and training data.
