Garmin Fenix 8 Solar demonstrates extended battery life
A long-term field test of the Garmin Fenix 8 Solar 51 mm Sapphire reveals significant battery performance through solar assistance. After thirteen months of use, including running approximately 40 kilometers per week in both urban and rural environments, the device maintained functionality for three consecutive weeks without a charge.
At the end of the three-week period, the battery remained at approximately 5%. The solar charging capability appears to effectively offset the power consumption required by the GPS during regular running activities. While Garmin specifies different battery life expectations for smartwatch mode versus GPS mode, the solar integration provides a notable advantage for runners seeking to minimize charging frequency.
