Garmin introduces RearVue 820 bike radar with USB‑C, priced at €299
Garmin has released the Varia RearVue 820, a high‑end bike radar that replaces the previous model’s micro‑USB connector with a USB‑C port, allowing cyclists to charge the device with the same cable used for smartphones and other bike computers. The new unit is priced at €299, about €100 more than the earlier Varia RTL516, and is positioned alongside Garmin’s Edge 840 and 1040 series as a premium assistance system.
The RearVue 820 adds software upgrades and retains the radar’s ability to detect approaching vehicles up to 140 metres, transmitting alerts to compatible Garmin bike computers or smartphones. While the system enhances rear‑traffic awareness for road and race cyclists, Garmin notes it does not replace the need for a shoulder‑check or attentive riding.
