Garmin introduces Tacx Nēra smart trainer with multi-directional movement
Garmin has launched the Tacx Nēra, a mid-priced smart indoor cycling trainer designed to enhance realism through multi-directional movement. Utilizing integrated rubberized spheres, the device allows the bicycle to move forward, backward, and laterally during pedaling sessions.
Technical specifications include a maximum power output of 2,200 watts, a 6.1kg flywheel, and the ability to simulate gradients of up to 20%. The trainer claims a power measurement accuracy of +/- 1%. It features Wi-Fi connectivity and a specialized ‘Race Mode’ designed for faster data transmission and rapid response to accelerations during virtual competitions.
The Tacx Nēra is available in two configurations: a standard version with a pre-installed 11-speed cassette, and a ‘Zwift Ready’ version featuring Zwift Cog and Click for seamless virtual shifting. The Zwift Ready model includes a free Zwift subscription. Pricing is set at approximately $999.99 / £859.99 / €999.99.
