Garmin releases major software updates for Venu and Forerunner smartwatches

Garmin has released major software updates for several of its smartwatch lines. The Venu X1, Venu 4, and vivoactive 6 models are receiving stable versions 18.29 and 18.30, respectively, replacing version 17.39. These updates introduce new features such as indoor cross-country skiing support and suggested quick workouts for running. They also address technical issues, including accidental touch screen unlocks and bugs that caused pace/speed interruptions or device restarts during workouts.

Additionally, the Forerunner series for runners is receiving significant updates. The flagship Forerunner 970 and 570 models are moving to version 18.29, which introduces a hands-free mode via the voice command “OK Garmin,” alongside the new indoor skiing and running workout features. The more budget-friendly Forerunner 70 and 170 models are also receiving updates, though the feature set is less extensive than the flagship models. Meanwhile, high-end outdoor models like the Fenix 8 have entered a new beta testing phase.
