Garmin rolls out Q3 2026 software update for smartwatches and cycling computers

Garmin has begun rolling out its Q3 2026 major software update, providing free feature enhancements to a wide range of smartwatches and Edge cycling computers. The update is currently being distributed to supported models, including the Venu X1, Venu 4, vivoactive 6, Forerunner 570 and 970, and the Fenix 8 series.

Key new features include hands-free voice control via “OK, Garmin” and the ability to access a paired phone’s voice assistant. The update also introduces fall detection, which sends a user’s live location to preset contacts upon detecting a fall. Other functional additions include ‘Quick Workout’ for generating running sessions based on time and intensity, and ‘Garmin Run Coach’ plans that adjust to recovery and health metrics.

For specialized users, the update adds dive setup sharing for compatible dive computers like the D2 Mach 2 Pro, an indoor XC ski activity profile, and enhanced Enduro ride profiles for Edge computers that automatically detect climbs and descents.
