Garmin smartwatches face battery drain after update
Garmin smartwatch users are reporting significant battery drain following a recent software update. The issue appears linked to the new ‘OK Garmin’ voice activation feature, which allows for hands-free commands by continuously listening for the wake word.
Users of models such as the Fenix 8 and Forerunner 970 have noted that estimated battery life has dropped by approximately 35 to 50 percent. For instance, one user reported a decrease from 15 days of battery life down to 9 days. Some reports suggest the feature may have been enabled automatically for certain users after the update.
While Garmin’s documentation notes that enabling the voice command feature impacts battery endurance, the extent of the drain has surprised many customers. As a temporary workaround, users can disable the feature by navigating to Watch Settings, then System, and finally Voice to turn off ‘OK Garmin’.
