Garrett Crochet resumes throwing program for Red Sox

Boston Red Sox left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet has resumed his throwing program after being sidelined since April 25 with a left shoulder injury. He recently completed a moderate session of 30 pitches from 60 feet.

While Crochet has transitioned to a starter role recently, the Red Sox front office, including Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow and interim manager Chad Tracy, are considering utilizing him as a reliever upon his return. This option is being weighed because reacclimatizing him for full starting outings may not be feasible within the remaining regular season schedule.

Crochet has expressed openness to any role within the pitching staff. Historically, between 2020 and 2023 with the Chicago White Sox, he primarily worked out of the bullpen, posting a 2.71 ERA over 73 innings. His return remains dependent on his physical progression and how many innings he can safely build up to through his rehabilitation program.
