Garrett Whitlock scheduled for live batting practice ahead of Red Sox return

Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Garrett Whitlock is progressing in his recovery from right elbow soreness. After being placed on the 15-day injured list on August 13, Whitlock is scheduled to participate in a live batting practice session this Wednesday at LoanDepot Park during the team's road series against the Miami Marlins.

Red Sox manager Chad Tracy indicated that the team will evaluate how Whitlock feels following the session to determine if he can be activated. Whitlock, 30, leads the team this season with 21 holds and maintains a 2.05 ERA over 44 innings. If the live session is successful, the team may look to activate him as early as Friday.
