Garrett Wilson shifts to boundary receiver role for New York Jets

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson has transitioned from a slot role to primarily operating as a boundary receiver. This tactical shift, requested by Wilson and implemented by offensive coordinator Frank Reich, saw Wilson line up in the slot for only 9% of offensive plays in the team's recent opener, a significant decrease from his previous average of 29%.

Wilson reported that the move allows him to play more like a traditional receiver, engaging in one-on-one matchups with cornerbacks rather than facing interior defenders. The change resulted in Wilson leading the team in receptions (six), receiving yards (79), and targets (seven) during the first week of the season.
