Garry Kasparov calls for Ukrainian victory over peace talks with Putin
Garry Kasparov, the former world chess champion and leader of the Free Russia Forum, has stated that current efforts to initiate peace negotiations with Vladimir Putin are futile. Speaking to Radio Free Europe, Kasparov argued that the Kremlin leader has no intention of ending the nearly five-year war and remains committed to eliminating Ukraine as an independent state.
Kasparov emphasized that international efforts should focus on helping Ukraine achieve a decisive victory, which he believes could lead to Putin's removal from power and create opportunities for democracy in Russia. He noted that a Russian defeat in the conflict could fundamentally shift the domestic political atmosphere, potentially making the population more open to the rule of law.
Living in exile in the United States since 2013, Kasparov revealed that U.S. authorities recently warned him of a Kremlin plot to assassinate him. His organization has raised approximately $15 million for various projects in Ukraine, maintaining contact with armed Russian volunteer formations fighting alongside Ukrainian forces.
