Garry Kasparov calls peace talks with Putin futile

Garry Kasparov, the former world chess champion and leader of the Free Russia Foundation, has stated that peace negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin are futile. In an interview with Radio Free Europe, Kasparov argued that Putin’s objective remains the destruction of Ukraine as an independent state and that war serves as the ideological basis for his power.

Kasparov urged the international community to focus on helping Ukraine win the conflict, suggesting that a Ukrainian victory could lead to Putin’s downfall and create opportunities for democracy in Russia. He noted that his organization has raised approximately $15 million for various projects in Ukraine and maintains direct contact with groups such as the Free Russia Legion and the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK).

Additionally, Kasparov highlighted his efforts to lobby the U.S. Congress in support of Ukrainian causes, claiming his group successfully influenced 15 Republicans to change their votes on a specific matter.
